Octopussy (1983)



Story


Geheim agent 009 sterft in het huis van de Britse ambassadeur in Oost-Berlijn. In zijn handen heeft hij een gouden Faberge ei dat ooit voor de Russische Tsaar werd gemaakt. Het ei blijkt een perfecte vervalsing te zijn. 007 krijgt de opdracht om de zaak verder te onderzoeken. Hij ontdekt dat de Russische Generaal Orlov de schatten uit het Kremlin heeft laten vervalsen. Het blijkt een dekmantel te zijn om een atoombom in het Westen te laten exploderen. Maud Adams schittert hier voor de tweede keer in een hoofdrol als Bondgirl.

Film Locaties


Voor een groot deel van de film scènes reisden de filmmakers naar Udaipur in het kleurrijke India met op de achtergrond de Tah Majal. De pre-credit opent deze keer met Bond die aankomt op een Zuid-Amerikaanse luchtmacht basis. Natuurlijk werd nog maar eens gebruik gemaakt van de luchtmacht basis R.A.F. Northolt nabij Londen. Bond ontsnapt met zijn mini jet, de AcroStar. Het interieur van het MI-6 hoofdkwartier is het War Office in Whitehall te Londen.
James Bond en kunst expert Jim Fanning gaan samen naar het veilingshuis Sotheby's in Bond street te Londen. Bond reist door naar Udaipur waar hij in het Shiv Niwas hotel verblijft. Vijaj en Bond worden achtervolgt op de markt van Udaipur. Het Lake Palace Hotel gelegen in Lake Pichola dubbelt hier voor het paleis van Octopussy. Het Monsoon Palace dubbelde voor de schuilplaats van Kamal Khan.
De indrukwekkende trein scènes werden allemaal gefilmd op de Nene-Valley museum spoorlijn voor stoomtreinen in Petersborough in Engeland.
Bond gaat van West- naar Oost Berlijn bij Checkpoint Charlie, er komen ook enkele beelden van de Kurfürstendam op het scherm. De plaats waar Bond aan het liften gaat, is nabij de Pinewood Studios en in de straten rond Black parc gefilmd. Het dorpje waar hij wordt afgezet, was een filmset op Pinewood, die gebouwd was voor een andere film waarvan de opnames net beëindigd waren. James Bond steelt daar een wagen en wordt achtervolgt door de Duitse politie. Voor deze achtervolging gebruikte de filmcrew een stuk racebaan gelegen tussen Nikolassee en Charlottenburg die nu dienst doet als de autoweg A115. De luchtmacht basis USAF Feldstadt bestaat niet, er werd gebruik gemaakt van de Engelse luchtmacht basis R.A.F. Upper Heyford.
